Hunger is not a 3rd world issue.  Hunger exists right here right now in our own community. 

It’s a fact.  Of the over 9,000 children in Gig Harbor‘s Peninsula School District, over 2,500 of them qualify for and receive free and reduced -priced lunches.

But summer is a different story. Hunger doesn’t take a vacation.

To fill the gap, Altrusa Gig Harbor, in partnership with Food BackPack 4 Kids, is committed to preparing and delivering healthy, balanced sack lunches to neighborhoods where we are likely to serve significant numbers of children who are hungry. Our volunteers will purchase the food and twice weekly prepare and deliver lunches to two centrally located sites in the city.   Based on Food Backpacts 4 Kids successful summer lunch program serving the Key Peninsula , the budget guarantees sufficient lunches delivered from July 8 to August 29.
