Hunger is not a 3rd world issue. Hunger exists right here right now in our own community. Of the 9,000+ children in Gig Harbor‘s Peninsula School District, over 2,500 of them qualify for and receive free and reduced -priced lunches.
But summer is a different story. Hunger doesn’t take a vacation.
To fill the gap, Altrusa Gig Harbor is committed to preparing and delivering healthy, balanced sack lunches to neighborhoods where we are likely to serve significant numbers of children who may be hungry. Our volunteers will purchase the food and prepare and deliver lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1 PM at two centrally located sites in the city, the Skate Park at the Civic Center and the Gig Harbor Library, from July 8 - Aug 28, 2025.
